Apple’s keynote presentation unveiling the iPad for the first time last week created almost as many questions as it did answers. One of the unusual things noticed was that the device is lacking many of the applications that come standard on the iPhone. It has even fewer built-in apps than the first iPhone did, with the Weather, Stocks, Clock and Calculator apps being strangely absent from the device. One theory now is that the apps are still there, but in the form of desktop widgets.

Today’s blogosphere has seen more little birdies sing than a bird watching society, with insider sources leaking top-secret info left and right about the goings-on behind Apple’s shroud of secrecy. One source has Apple signing a new contract with another manufacturer to make iPhone components overseas, while another source says Apple is finally taking a serious look at USB 3.0 technology and has already begun testing the tech, a claim that was soon denied by one of the parties allegedly involved.

One of the biggest disappointments with the iPad was the fact that it didn’t have the ability for multitasking, even though it has more than enough computing power. An Apple patent just released in the US could now potentially make that possible. The patent is for a touch-sensitive bezel around the edge of the display that would be used for a similar functionality to hot corners, with certain areas on the bezel being assigned different tasks. One of the tasks such a bezel might be especially useful for is managing multiple apps running at the same time.

Back when Apple and Google were still practically joined at the hip, the notion that Google disabled multitouch functionality from the Android OS seemed plausible, albeit totally bogus for Android users. Now Google seems to agree, as their latest over-the-air update has enabled multitouch on all Android devices. Why the sudden change? Good question.
